Mission East Haven Public Television (ETV) enriches the lives of our viewers through programs and services created by and for the residents of East  Haven, CT. By facilitating digital media creation and managing its public distribution, ETV aims to inform, educate, entertain and inspire our audiences in our town, across Connecticut and beyond.
Background ETV was formed in 1991 by eight residents of the town of East Haven. It received nonprofit approval in 1993. ETV was formed to operate the town's community access TV channels that were provided by the cable television company in the area. The organization is overseen by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. The Board selects Officers annually. Directors and Officers are all volunteers; several part time employees assist by overseeing the day-to-day operations of the studio facility. Studio facilities and production equipment are available for use to all residents of the town.
Impact

ETV continues on its growth curve, as the current board diligently works to reverse the downturn from previous years' economic slump. While continuing to fulfill its community presence at town events and meetings; also being the sole broadcast of these relevant events for our town. The board and staff are in the final stages of deploying an online web-based streaming service, including video on demand, that will bring our content to viewers beyond the town boundaries. This will benefit those who may be interested in town business but live beyond its borders.

While public television, due to federal requirements,  generally receives a basic budget from local cable providers,  the board has carried out the first direct mail fundraising campaign. Additional income would allow for such community-serving [additional] activities such as: greater scholarship-award dollars, ability to take on more student interns and improve ancillary services (such the aforementioned streaming project) that give greater value to the viewing community.

Needs ETV is working to increase membership and staff. Last  year's board increase (of 60% over previous year) continues.  The ETV board is working on a new membership drive to increase membership, thereby increasing  donations in 2018. Plans for this financial support include updating field camera equipment, increasing the quality of the online and social media presence, adding video streaming with video on demand services to the current broadcast functions, creation of a significant scholarship program for Media/Communications students and community outreach to recruit and train more producers at the high school level and above.
Board Chair Statement ETV enjoys producing coverage of sports, town events, and specific shows created by local producers for our viewers. Our main challenge is finding the resources and personnel to continue this level of valuable programming. We have been reaching out to media students at the high school and college levels both to offer meaningful media internships, and to give them opportunities to videotape in a number of challenging environments. For me personally, television has always been a satisfying creative outlet and a necessary part of our democracy and we're excited to continue to meet those challenges and experience the successes in the years to come. - Jay Miles, ETV Board Chair
