To maintain the Botsford Homestead as a public museum for displaying articles of educational and historical interest.
Background
The first recorded "reunion" of Botsford family members took place in upstate New York in 1904. The tradition continues, and in 2004 we celebrated 100 years as a group. The property where the current Homestead is located has been in the Botsford family since 1639, the year that Henry Botsford and his wife Elizabeth arrived in Milford, CT as original Planters. A reunion is held every year in July at the Homestead.  Membership is open to all descendents of Henry and Elizabeth Botsford, either through direct lineage or by marriage. The organization incorporated in 1978 and was granted tax exempt status in 1979.
Impact
We organized and held an annual reunion jointly with the Platt Family Association, an organization similar to ours. The reunion was held at our Homestead. With the cooperation of the Milford Public Library, several of our members offered their genealogy expertise to other members who visited the genealogy room at the library.

In our fiscal year which ended June 30, 2017  we awarded three scholarships ($2000 each) to members attending college. We expect to award four more scholarships in our current fiscal year.
Needs We need more volunteers from within our membership.
CEO Statement We do not solicit donations from anyone other than our own members.
Board Chair Statement We have made significant progress in the maintenance and repair of our homestead, which is classified as a museum by the IRS. Since our membership is restricted to members of the Botsford Family (and their spouses), we do not solicit donations from anyone but our own members.

CEO Comments
Membership in our organization is not growing as much as we would like.  In the past we were a major source of genealogical information for our members. Now there is so much information on the internet, members and others do not use our organization as much.  We have recently started a Facebook page, and it has been active.

CEO Comments
Income has exceeded expense since we began to receive income from the Alice Botsford Trust. That income has enabled us to make much-needed improvements to the Homestead. There will be more done in the future, but we are proceeding cautiously.

Our tax return is prepared by a CPA but we have never felt that we needed an audit. We have discussed that question at some length recently and asked our accountant for a quote. The answer was $8000 for a review level audit. Our Board did not feel it was worth it. We did decide, however, to appoint one of our Board members to act as an internal auditor. He has been given "read-only" access to our bank accounts as well as any other information he needs. Auditing is part of his regular job.
